Indigo flight made emergency landing in Raipur following bomb threat, one person arrested

An IndiGo flight bound for Kolkata had to make an emergency landing at Raipur Airport after receiving a bomb threat on Thursday morning, causing fear among passengers and crew.

According to Raipur Senior Superintendent of Police Santosh Singh, a flight from Nagpur to Kolkata was diverted after airlines received the threat.

All 187 passengers and six crew members on the Indigo flight were evacuated and moved to a lounge at Raipur Airport.

The aircraft was taken to an isolation bay where teams of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Raipur police carried out a thorough inspection for several hours before getting clearance to fly to Kolkata.

According to Raipur Superintendent of Police Santosh Singh, a passenger was arrested in connection with the threat. Preliminary investigation showed that he sent a threatening message warning of a bomb on board. He is being questioned by officials at the Mana police station.

“We received information that there was a bomb on Indigo flight 6E812, which was heading from Nagpur to Kolkata. Preliminary investigation found that Nimesh Mandal, one of the passengers, had given this threat via message. Additional SP Kirtan Rathore said that the plane was in good condition with the CISF team and “The threat turned out to be a hoax,” he said.

“A case was filed against him in the relevant departments as we received complaints from the relevant airlines,” he added.
