Hull funeral inquiry: Government confirms funeral industry review

A government spokesman said: “We are currently reviewing the funeral sector to ensure the highest standards are met at all times, including looking at regulatory options, and will determine next steps in due course.”

They said options were being considered for “what a regulatory structure for funeral directors might look like.”

The Ministry of Justice also said it had “comprehensively reviewed the recommendations” made in an independent report published last month into necrophilic killer David Fuller, who filmed himself abusing at least 100 women’s bodies in two Kent hospital morgues over 12 years.

Detectives were continuing their investigation into Legacy.

The 46-year-old man, who was arrested on March 9 on suspicion of obstructing a lawful and proper funeral, fraud by false representation and fraud by abuse of office, was released on conditional bail.

A 54-year-old woman, who was arrested on suspicion of money laundering in July, was also released on bail.

Victim Support has a telephone support line for anyone affected by the investigation.
