Tribal woman’s autopsy indicates brutal torture; It’s impossible to do a rape test because… – The Week

The autopsy claimed that the 31-year-old Jiribam woman, who was burned to death by an armed group in the valley, was subjected to brutal torture before being killed. Media outlets that had access to the autopsy report claimed that many of the details outlined in the report were so striking that they could be explained in news articles.

The mother of three children was killed at her home in Zirawn district of Jiribam on Thursday, November 7. Following the attack, some 17 houses were burned in the tribal village. The victim was left to die in one of these houses by the perpetrators.

The woman’s husband claimed that he was raped by the attackers. However, Times Of India (TOI) said in a report that it was impossible for doctors to verify this claim as 99% of his body was burnt. If a vaginal smear cannot be taken from the body, the rape allegation cannot be verified.

The autopsy stated that even the woman’s bone fragments were charred and there were deep wounds on her thighs. Part of his face and both his upper and lower limbs were missing, and it was suspected that metallic nails had been pierced through his thighs to torture him, the newspaper said.

It is not yet known how his wife and the couple’s children escaped uninjured from the attack.

New violence: AFSPA returns to Manipur

In the face of fresh violence, the Center reintroduced the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act in six police station areas of Manipur, including Jiribam, where the violence took place.

An area or area is declared “disturbed” under the AFSPA to facilitate the operations of the armed forces. AFSPA gives armed forces operating in disturbed areas broad powers to search, arrest and open fire if deemed necessary for the “preservation of public order”.

The decision was taken in view of the persistent unstable situation in the region due to ongoing ethnic violence, the Union Home Ministry said in a notification.

The police station areas where AFSPA has been reintroduced are Sekmai and Lamsang in Imphal West district, Lamlai in Imphal East district, Jiribam in Jiribam district, Leimakhong in Kangpokpi and Moirang in Bishnupur.
