Windsor police searching for suspect in string of violent robberies

Windsor Police Service has arrested a suspect and issued an arrest warrant for a second man following a series of violent robberies involving a firearm.

On Tuesday, officers were called to a business in the 900 block of Erie Street East following a report of an armed robbery in progress. Upon investigation, officers determined that a male suspect entered the business wearing a plastic Black Panther mask and demanded property while threatening the employee with a firearm.

The employee and another person disarmed the suspect. Meanwhile, a second male suspect entered the workplace with a knife and threatening the victims. Both suspects fled the scene a short time later in what police said was a stolen vehicle, but they were unable to retrieve any property.

Police seized a gun and a bag thought to belong to the suspects at the scene.

A short time later, officers located and arrested the first suspect at a business in the 500 block of Tecumseh Road East. During the arrest, officers recovered the stolen vehicle at that location and seized a quantity of fentanyl and crystal methamphetamine.

Investigators soon confirmed that at least one of the suspects had been involved in three similar robberies the previous day, Monday, November 11.

A 41-year-old man was charged with nine offences:

• Robbery with an assault weapon
• Robbery
• Pointing a firearm
• Disguising yourself to commit a crime.
• Attack
• Possession of a firearm while prohibited
• Possession of property obtained through crime exceeding $5,000.
• Property obtained through crime is less than $5,000.
• Illegal possession of a scheduled substance.

An arrest warrant has been issued for 27-year-old Anthony James Martin on charges of robbery with violence, assault, threatening bodily harm and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

He is described as a white male, approximately 6 feet tall, of medium build, with blue eyes, brownish-red hair and a bushy beard.
