Android 15’s Private Space has a major Wear OS issue

Google recently accepted An issue with notifications between Wear OS devices and Android 15 devices using the Private Space feature (via 9to5Google). Some users are experiencing an issue that causes notifications from Private Space apps to unexpectedly appear publicly on paired Wear OS devices.

This is not how Private Field works

Private Space is a sort of secure locker for applications you want to keep away from prying eyes. Apps in Private Space need to remain completely isolated and their notifications limited to the primary Android device. It’s the perfect place to store banking apps, messaging apps, and dating apps. However, some devices running Android 15 send notifications to connected Wear OS watches.

To further complicate the situation, some of these notifications come with a work profile icon for users who do not have a work profile configured on their device. Work profiles are typically created by one’s employer and allow the user to switch between personal and business use. The work profile and Custom Field properties are separate and should have nothing to do with each other.

Some users reported having a work profile tab in the Wear OS app even without setting up a work profile on their phone. This is likely a result of the new Custom Field being enabled but not optimized to work with other profiles.

Google says it’s working on a fix for this issue

Google quickly acknowledged the issue and said it was working on a fix for all of these issues, hinting that they might be linked. Google advised users to turn off notifications for apps in Private Space or continue expecting strange notifications in their apps. Use operating system devices. Google did not provide a timeline for the fix.
