Teacher assistant accused of assaulting 8-year-old student

LENOIR COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – A teacher assistant in an East Carolina school system has been charged with assaulting an eight-year-old student.

The arrests state that Sherrinita Caldwell was charged with assault on a child under the age of 12 in Lenoir County.

The 45-year-old Kinston woman worked at Banks Elementary School.

The attack occurred on Oct. 30 and the woman attacked the child by “pulling his arm and pushing his head on the table,” the warrant states.

Lenoir County Schools says Caldwell is no longer an employee. They said he resigned from his job.

Caldwell was released on bail and has a Dec. 16 court date on the charge.
