SUSPENDED Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul said members of Parliament (MPs) can hold a press conference in Parliament.

Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal, who is currently suspended for six months, said Wan Ahmad Kamal can continue to hold press conferences in Parliament.

“He is still an MP. He enjoys all the privileges,” he told the Star.

Despite his suspension, Wan Ahmad Fayshal continued to hold press conferences in the Parliament’s media room. However, it is forbidden to enter the room and the public gallery within the room.

On October 28, Johari Abdul decreed that any MP ordered to leave the Dewan Rakyat will not only be banned from leaving the assembly but also from being in the public gallery inside the chamber.

His statement followed concerns raised by Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan (PN-Kota Baru), who argued that the Machang MP should be allowed to sit in the public gallery despite being suspended.

On July 18, Wan Ahmad Fayshal was sentenced to a six-month suspension from the Dewan Rakyat.

The suspension means Wan Ahmad Fayshal will not only miss Dewan Rakyat hearings but will also be unable to attend Parliamentary Special Select Committee meetings.
