A man broke into his neighbor’s house and left covered in blood “after a drunken sleepover”. Marcus Shaw apparently broke his landlord’s kitchen window before falling asleep in his bed so he could get in when she wasn’t home.

Months later, she still finds bloodstains in her home after she accidentally cut herself while entering. The thief said he had no memory of the strange crime and “couldn’t explain what happened”.

Liverpool Crown Court I heard yesterday Thursday that Patricia Finnegan was away from her home in Coronation Drive. Pre-ScotsUnder renovation, between 15 and 20 April this year, returning to the address shortly after 4pm on the second date. Once inside, he discovered the rear kitchen window had been shattered, broken glass was strewn across the floor, and there was a trail of blood all over the property.

Prosecutor Christopher Taylor described the matter as a “bizarre case”; No items had been taken during the break-in, but Mrs Finnegan’s previously made bed was now “a mess” and the sheets were bloody. Several drawers had also been pulled out, but a jewelery bag that had been set aside in anticipation of being removed from the property remained in place.

Shaw, who still lived across the street from his victim with his mother, was linked to the burglary through DNA analysis of dried blood. The 30-year-old had “no recollection of his offending” but Mr Taylor added: “The defendant went in and had a sleepover of some sort in a drunken state.”

In a statement read to the court on her behalf, Ms Finnegan said she found blood “in some rooms in the house” because she was on holiday at the time. He added: “What happened affected my free time. “I kept wondering why he was at my house.

“After returning from holiday, I had to go back to all the mess that had been made. I started cleaning up and noticed how much blood there was. Apparently someone had slept in my bed and gone through the stuff. In the bedroom I also noticed an empty wine bottle covered in blood in the spare room.”

“I had to tear up the carpets to get rid of the blood. I didn’t want to sleep in the bed because they were falling on the bed and leaving blood. It makes me feel like I don’t want to live.” Now he has turned my life upside down at home, he continues his life as if nothing has affected him.

“I can’t understand how one person can take so much blood. Even now I find blood stains on toilet rolls. I feel like I can’t move forward. I’m so worried that a neighbor would do this to me.”

Shaw had two previous convictions; He was sentenced to 18 months in prison for possessing MDMA with intent to supply before being fined for drink driving in 2020. Charles Lander, defending, told the court: “He is devastated to have read this statement. He knows how you feel.”

“He says he has hardly slept since this incident. He says his life turned upside down after his grandmother’s death. He cannot explain what happened. He has never stolen before.

“He managed to resolve his drug problem. He went to his doctor to seek help. The defendant currently works as a traffic officer. He has a solid background.

“He was at a low point. Frankly, with assistance the court can make sure there is a realistic prospect of rehabilitation. If he is sent to prison today he will lose his job. The worry is that he will revert back to the situation his life was before.”

Shaw admitted stealing with intent to cause harm. He was given a 10-month prison sentence suspended for 16 months with a requirement for up to 20 days of rehabilitation activity and was also told to pay £900 compensation to Miss Finnegan.

Sentencing, Recorder Michael Blakey said: “You cut yourself as a result of going through the window. “Your blood was everywhere – downstairs, in the bedrooms, on the bed, in the bottles.

“In fact, there is no doubt that the bed was used by you in a drunken state. Seeing this blood here, there and everywhere, the woman must have wondered what was going on on Earth.

“This has been on his mind ever since. This is an extremely distressing situation for him. He is extremely concerned about someone entering his home without permission. He stated that he does not feel safe in his own home.” House.

“You have a limited record. You have no previous criminal record for similar crimes. It is correct to say that you have problems in terms of your mental health.

“You are working and apparently earning a good salary. It is sad that you have resolved your drug problem. It is said that there is a realistic prospect of rehabilitation, that you are working and that you have resolved your difficulties. I hope that is the case.”
