Lagos Police Arrest Three Suspects Who Stole Phones From Accident Victims

  • The three suspects were arrested by the Rapid Response Team (RRS) for stealing phones of accident victims at Governor’s Road in Alausa, Ikeja.

On the night of November 14, 2024, Rapid Response Squad (RRS) operatives arrested three suspects for stealing two phones from accident victims at Governor’s Road, Alausa, Ikeja.

Lagos State Police Command 2 announced the arrests via the official X account @rrslagos767.

Suspects Isaiah Adegbenro (38), Edet Johnson (30) and Efe Sowemimo (28) were caught a few meters away from the accident scene while trying to escape with stolen phones.

The victims were traveling towards Ikeja in red toyota In Camry 2010, the driver lost control and crashed into a road divider near the Adeyemi Bero end of Governor Road.

Phone theft from accident victims

Police said the suspects exploited the situation by searching the victims’ pockets and the vehicle instead of helping the injured driver and passengers.

They managed to steal iPhone 15 worth N1,300,000 and iPhone 12 worth N620,000.

Fortunately, RRS officers patrolling the area were alerted to the incident and quickly tracked down the suspects and recovered the stolen phones.

The teams not only caught the thieves, but also provided the necessary aid to the victims, took them to the hospital, and pulled the vehicle off the road to prevent further blockage.

It was reported that the suspects made important confessions and will be brought to court in accordance with the instructions of the Rapid Response Team (RRS) Commander, CSP Shola Jejeloye.
