Delhi air pollution Ixigo CEO masks – Ixigo CEO accuses residents of not wearing masks as Delhi suffocates due to severe AQI

As New Delhi grapples with dangerously high air pollution, Ixigo co-founder and CEO Aloke Bajpai criticized residents for not wearing masks.

This week, Delhi’s air quality reaches ‘severe’ levelsAccording to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the Air Quality Index (AQI) rose to 432 on Thursday morning and 409 on Friday. The toxic air has caused widespread health problems, with residents experiencing persistent coughs, fevers, runny noses, headaches and watery eyes.

Bajpai shared his frustration in his post, observing that his children “seem to be the only ones wearing masks to school,” while older residents in his neighborhood dismiss the need for masks, claiming they have developed immunity.

“At an AQI level of 500-plus, my kids seemed to be the only ones wearing masks to school, and a parent asked me if everything was okay with your son. In fact, not everything was okay in the air these kids were breathing. And then I heard 50-plus elderly people in my community on their morning walk “Why is there no public health awareness campaign on this issue yet? All you have to do is talk to some lung doctors,” Bajpai said in his post. “A middle-aged uncle shrugs his shoulders saying, ‘Ab to hamein immunity hai ji’

Minimizing the risk of disease caused by air pollution, experts strongly recommend wearing an anti-pollution maskPreferably an N95 when traveling outdoors. These masks provide effective protection against harmful pollutants, especially PM2.5 particles, which can penetrate the bloodstream and contribute to various health problems.

Meanwhile, stringent anti-pollution measures under Phase 3 of the Gradual Response Action Plan (GRAP) were implemented on Friday as per the directives of the Commission on Air Quality Management (CAQM).
