Substitute teacher accused of giving students marijuana, alcohol and money in exchange for sex

A grand jury indicted a former substitute teacher on multiple charges related to rape of a student, sodomy and sexual trafficking.

carissa smith He was charged with two counts of sexual trafficking of a child under 18, nine counts of statutory rape, two counts of statutory sodomy, three counts of sexual intercourse with a student, one count of patronizing prostitution for those 14 and under, and two counts hindering prosecution of a crime.

Court documents state that Smith was a teacher in the Dixon RI School District in Pulaski County, Missouri.

Documents allege the two teenage victims spoke with deputies in Kid’s Harbor.

They reported having sex with Smith in exchange for money, alcohol and marijuana.

One of the victims also said a third teen had sex with Smith, but court documents did not say they spoke to law enforcement.

Smith began working as a regular substitute at Dixon Middle School in August 2022.

He moved to Dixon High School as an assistant pro for 2023-2024.

In August 2024, Smith left his position.

A warrant was issued for his arrest on Nov. 12, but Pulaski County Jail’s online jail records do not show him in custody.

Dixon RI’s superintendent sent a letter to parents about the arrest on Wednesday.

Travis Bohrer said in his letter that they knew about the allegations before but could not share them due to law enforcement investigations.

He said the district is working with the Missouri Juvenile Division and law enforcement.

They were also in contact with affected families.
