Haywoodmade Store Closes Portage Park Store Front, But Will Remain Open By Appointment

PORTAGE PARK — After three years in Six Corners, the haymaking home goods store is switching to appointment-only hours.

Interior designer Kelsey Haywood It opened the store at 4942 W. Irving Park Road in 2022. He moved his interior design business, hay making, It turned into a storefront and used it as a studio and store.

on tuesday Haywood announced The haywoodmade store will be open by appointment only starting December 16th.

“When I started out in 2021 by renting our space at 4942 W. Irving Park, my primary goal was haywoodmade studio. The little space overlooking the street was a bonus. I immediately envisioned a home goods store where I loved to pick up along the way on my travels.” Haywood he said in a social media post..

“Unfortunately, when some of our key neighbors in Irving Park moved to new locations last year, the foot traffic we were used to stopped,” he said.

When it opened, the store was located between Junebug Cafe and Kit: A Bar Supply Store. Junebug has been relocated last year it moved to a larger spot at 4042 N. Milwaukee Avenue and The kit closed in May.

Haywoodmade’s store at 4942 W. Irving Park Road is one of several Northwest Side businesses that has seen low sales for nearly two months, leaving owners concerned.

In Tuesday’s announcement, Haywood said the design side of haywoodmade is expanding and doing well.

“It is time to clear things out so that my professional focus can be more singular and directed towards our design clients,” he said in the post.

He was not immediately available for further comment.

Customers will still be able to order products online and even pick up their purchases in store.

The store sells carefully selected household items such as towels, glassware, bowls, vases, pillows and vintage rugs. The inventory includes products from local and national manufacturers, with an emphasis on women entrepreneurs.

Haywoodmade store will have a store-wide discount starting Friday. All home fragrance products and decor will be 20 percent off, rugs will be 25 percent off, tabletop products will be 40 percent off, and pillows and textile products will be 50 percent off.
