Funding has been allocated to communities in Co Donegal that have had problems with their water supply for several years.

Funding of €237,471 was allocated to the Conwall area, while €117,260 was awarded to Miltown, Newmills, through its rural water services project plan.

Residents of Conwall have never had a mains water supply, while those living in these areas struggle with water problems such as water shortages and burst pipes.

The funding was welcomed by Major Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly, who said he was pleased that the funding was now being used to provide works and upgrades to new pipes to ensure a much-needed, reliable and adequate water supply.

“Residents in these areas have long suffered from water problems and areas such as Conwall, which have never had mains water, will now soon have mains service added.

“This is something I have worked hard on over the last few years and it is great that these funds have now been secured.

“I would like to thank residents in these areas for their patience and can reassure them that I will continue to keep up the pressure to ensure these much-needed works are carried out as quickly as possible.

“I am also pushing hard to ensure adequate services are provided to the Bomany areas of Newmills and I am confident that through ongoing discussions with Uisce Eireann and our own local government we will be able to resolve this issue in the not too distant future.

“I will continue to work hard on this issue to deliver to every individual in these areas as quickly as possible,” Commander Kelly said.
