D.C. police arrest 14- and 16-year-olds in connection with robbery that left DJ dead

D.C. police have arrested two teenagers in connection with the brutal attack and robbery that left a well-known DJ dead.

At a news conference Friday, Metropolitan Police Department Chief Pamela Smith said a 14-year-old and a 16-year-old were arrested Thursday in connection with the death of Bryan Smith. He died after being in a coma for more than a week.

Authorities said they believe the suspects attacked and robbed Smith as he walked home after his shift the morning of Oct. 27.

Smith was found critically injured and unconscious in the 500 block of T Street. His phone, wallet and credit cards were stolen. He died in hospital just over a week later.

Shortly after the attack on Smith, police said the suspects attacked the 1900 block of 14th Street and tried to rob others. Investigators said the teens robbed a person in the 1800 block of Vermont Avenue and assaulted another person in the 900 block of Rhode Island Avenue.
