District governor’s election objection rejected

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Canvassing is underway to certify the results of the 2024 election.

In New Hanover County, a protest by attorneys representing Commissioner Dane Scalise was heard before the meeting began. The protest alleged that the county Board of Elections violated state law by not counting absentee ballots before election day.

By a 3-2 vote, the protest was rejected on the grounds that there were no allegations of irregularities or abuses that would cast doubt on the election outcome.

Scalise currently sits third in the county commissioner race ahead of polling, which will give him a spot for the next four years.
