A Fire broke out in the BKC Metro Station Bodrum Basement, Services Stopped for More than 2 Hours

A fire broke out in the basement of the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) subway metro station in Maharashtra’s Mumbai on Friday afternoon, leading to the suspension of train services, officials said. The fire, which broke out around 13.10, was limited to wooden boards, furniture and construction materials located 40-50 meters below the station. The fire concentrated in the inoperable section of the station, which is under construction and near the A4 entrance/exit.

According to a civic official, no injuries have been reported so far, news agency PTI reported. Eight fire trucks were dispatched along with other fire trucks to bring the situation under control.

The fire-fighting operation, supported by Mumbai police, Adani Power, 108 Ambulance, Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC), Public Works Department (PWD) and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), lasted for around two hours before the fire was doused. It was extinguished at 15:11. After the intervention of the fire brigade at 14.45, metro services resumed.

Via a post on the official X handle of Mumbai Metro 3, it said, “Passenger services at BKC station were temporarily closed due to a fire outside A4 Entrance/Exit which caused smoke to enter the station. Fire crews are on the job. Passenger safety, Senior Officers of MMRC and DMRC Please proceed to Bandra Colony station for alternative boarding.

In another post, it was informed that train services at BKC Metro Station have been completely restarted.

BKC metro station is part of the 12.69 km long Phase 1 of MMRC’s Mumbai Metro Line-3 (Aqua Line) connecting Aarey JVLR with BKC. This line was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month.

In the statement made by MMRC at 15.35, it was announced that the fire occurred near the A4 entrance/exit, which is under construction. MMRC confirmed that metro services between Aarey JVLR and Bandra Colony were not affected although the fire caused smoke to leak into operational areas.

Mumbai News: Fire in 7-Storey Building in Chembur District

In a separate incident, a 60-year-old man suffered burn injuries in a fire that broke out in a seven-storey building in Mumbai’s Chembur area late on Wednesday night. The fire started around 10.45 pm in building number six in MHADA Colony in Vashi Naka, officials said.

The fire brigade was immediately notified and the flames were extinguished within half an hour. The injured man, whose name was identified as Nafir Sayyad, suffered burns on his hands, face and neck. The condition of the person who was taken to Sion Hospital was reported to be stable.

The fire in Chembur was confined to one room and affected the gas cylinder, clothes and other household items. Another civil official stated that the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
