There will be a 14-hour power outage in Noida today due to maintenance work

Residents in key sectors of Noida will face a 14-hour power outage on Saturday, November 16, due to critical maintenance work planned at the 33/11 kV substation in Sector 124, Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (PVVNL) officials said on Friday.

The outage will affect sectors 94, 95, 124, 125 and 126 along with Raipur district for 14 hours from 10 am to midnight. (HT Archive, representative image)

The outage will affect sectors 94, 95, 124, 125 and 126 along with Raipur district for 14 hours from 10 am to midnight. PVVNL officials said the maintenance is part of UPPCL’s 2024-2025 business plan, which focuses on improving power infrastructure and ensuring reliable supply.

They said that the aged and damaged 11 kV input and output VCB panels at Sector 124 substation will be replaced during maintenance work.

“The maintenance work at the Sector 124 substation is part of our broader efforts to improve aging infrastructure and improve the reliability of power supply in Noida. The existing 11 kV VCB (vacuum circuit breaker) panels have been in use for years and need to be replaced to avoid possible failures. Chief engineer, PVVNL Noida Harish Bansal said, “Consumers should plan their activities accordingly on Saturday and reach out to our helpline number 1912 if they require any assistance.” “We are calling,” he said.

The prolonged outage is expected to cause major inconvenience to households that depend on uninterruptible power supply for their daily operations. “Full-time interruption is a difficult process, especially for those working from home. This will affect our daily work,” said Pramod Kumar, a resident of Sector 126.

According to the Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Association (FONRWA), the sectors slated to see disruption mostly include residential facilities.

“We are constantly in touch with the discom to resolve the issues faced by various sectors of Noida and progress is being made. However, such prolonged outages should be avoided and the discom should consider scheduling maintenance in shifts to minimize disruption,” FONRWA general secretary KK Jain said.

“With the entry into force of Grap Stage 3, the use of DG sets is banned to control air pollution, leaving residents with limited alternatives during the outage. This will cause serious hardship to citizens,” he said.

“The complexity and scale of this work requires a rolling power outage for safety and efficiency reasons, and we have scheduled this over the weekend to minimize inconvenience to residents. This upgrade will significantly increase supply when completed,” said the chief engineer.

Additionally, Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) announced that its consumer portal (uppclonline.com) will also undergo technical upgrades this weekend. Online services such as bill payments, smart meter top-ups, automatic bill generation and load increase requests will be unavailable from 22:00 on November 16 to 04:00 on November 17, further increasing the inconvenience for consumers.
