Guwahati: A police constable in Assam’s Guwahati was suspended after a video of him assaulting a delivery boy went viral on social media. The incident reportedly took place around 6.30 pm on Friday, near Jail Road traffic point in Fancy Bazar, when the delivery boy allegedly broke traffic signals. According to reports from the police, the agent was driving in a restricted ‘no entry’ zone and attempted to escape despite being ordered to stop by the Police Security Officer (PSO).

Footage Shows Attack on Delivery Boy

In the footage taken by the people around, Panbazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Inspector Bhargav Borbora is seen dragging the deliveryman to the roadside, while another officer pulls his vehicle’s scooter aside. Inspector Borbora is seen grabbing the agent by the neck and questioning him aggressively. The video also shows the delivery driver asking, “Where do you think you’re going?” It is also recorded that he threatened with expressions such as. and “I’ll kill you.”

Despite the efforts of bystanders to intervene, Inspector Borbora continued to hit the delivery man. Eyewitnesses who recorded the incident said that the police officer noticed them filming and started threatening them. He ordered them to stop recording and told them to “mind their own business.”

Assam DGP Dismisses Police Involved in Attack

The incident sparked widespread outrage, prompting Assam Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh to take swift action. Condemning the conduct as ‘unacceptable’, DGP Singh announced the officer’s suspension on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

“The behavior of Inspector Bhargav Borbora OC Panbazar is unacceptable. He is subject to immediate suspension and a Departmental Inquiry has been ordered. CP Guwahati has been advised to transfer another officer immediately,” he wrote.
