Sex with students: How married US teacher used money, drugs and alcohol to keep teenage victims quiet

A US school teacher has been accused of offering students money, alcohol and drugs in exchange for sex. Carissa Jane Smith, 30, a substitute teacher at Dixon Middle School in Missouri, faces multiple charges of statutory rape, sodomy and sexual intercourse with children. The victims varied in age; One of them told police she was in middle school when Smith first propositioned her for sex.

“Smith was offering students money, marijuana and/or alcohol in exchange for sex or allowing him to perform oral sex. The victim testified that Smith would have sex with them at his home and various other locations, such as gravel driveways or roadsides, the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department said in a Facebook statement.

Smith was arrested on November 12 and is currently being held in police custody on a $250,000 bail. The charges against the teacher include multiple counts of statutory rape, sodomy, sexual harassment with students, patronizing prostitution, sexual trafficking of children, and more.

According to one victim, Smith began sending nude photos of herself through the social media platform Snapchat while she was still in middle school. He also propositioned the child for sex and offered money (at least $100) to participate in sexual activities. He also occasionally provided alcohol and marijuana to children.

However, the victim was repeatedly warned not to tell anyone about these encounters as he would “get in trouble”. The encounters took place at his home, in his vehicle, on the side of the street, and even on gravel roads.

As the investigation progressed, others came forward and alleged that the teacher had also had sexual intercourse with them. One of the boys said Smith forced him to cum inside himself and then offered him more money.
