Firefighter case rejected

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – A judge dismissed a lawsuit filed by the International Association of Fire Fighters at a status hearing today over the city of Mobile’s recent overhaul of its pay plan for first responders.

The new pay plan for first responders includes a complete overhaul of Mobile’s public safety pay plan, which has led to raises for the vast majority of first responders.

Earlier this year, the city of Mobile and the Mobile County Personnel Board led a months-long effort to overhaul the public safety pay plan that went into effect in September.

Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson released a statement today that reads in part:

“This incredible team effort capped decades of using a series of incentives to fix the inadequate pay plan for our police officers and firefighters. After this new pay plan went into effect in September, the issue at the center of the fire union’s lawsuit became a moot point. “We are pleased that the court agreed and decided to dismiss the case.”
