(AB PM-JAY) It recently expanded its coverage to all senior citizens aged 70 and above, regardless of their income. This landmark initiative aims to provide comprehensive health insurance to around 4.5 million families, enabling around 6 million senior citizens to benefit from a health insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh per family, strengthening the government’s commitment towards inclusive and affordable healthcare for the vulnerable sections of society.

Beneficiaries can apply for the Ayushman Bharat Senior Citizen Scheme through a dedicated website portal and Ayushman App (available for Android on Google Play Store).

How to Apply for Ayushman Card for Age 70 and Over?

Online Registration:

Senior citizens can apply for Ayushman card online through the official National Health Authority (NHA) website or Ayushman app.

Steps to Apply to NHA Portal:

  • Access the Portal: Visit the NHA Beneficiary portal.
  • Login: Enter your phone number, solve captcha and authenticate via OTP.
  • Registration Banner: Click on the banner for senior citizens over 70 years of age.
  • Fill Details: Enter your state, territory and Aadhaar number.
  • Complete KYC: Use Aadhaar OTP for KYC verification and upload a new photo.
  • Download Card: Download Ayushman Vaya Vandana Card within 15 minutes after approval.

Mobile Application Process:

  • Download Ayushman App: Install the app on your mobile device.
  • Login as beneficiary: Enter captcha and mobile number then authenticate via OTP.
  • Fill in Beneficiary Details: Provide Aadhaar details and a declaration.
  • Capture Photo: Upload a current photo.
  • Submit Application: Enter the details of the beneficiary and family members, then complete the eKYC process.
  • Card Download: The card will be available for download shortly after successful registration.

In case of any discrepancy or beneficiary not found, make sure to complete the eKYC process and consent for OTP verification.

Important Points to Consider

Different Ayushman Card:

Senior citizens aged 70 years and above will get a special, different card under the Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY scheme.

Special Installation Scope:

Senior citizens in families currently covered by AB PM-JAY will be given an additional support of Rs 5 lakh annually. This download is specific to them and does not need to be shared with family members under 70 years of age.

Family Insurance for Unregistered Elderly:

Senior citizens who are not part of the existing AB PM-JAY family scheme will be provided with an annual cover of Rs 5 lakh on a family basis.

Flexibility in Program Selection:

Senior citizens who are currently enrolled in other public health insurance schemes such as Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS), Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) or Ayushman CAPF can choose to continue their existing plan or switch to AB PM-. JAY.

Eligibility of Private Insured:

Senior citizens covered by private health insurance or the Employees’ State Insurance scheme are also entitled to benefits under AB PM-JAY.
