Losing It: Sunny Hostin Asks Eric Adams If He's 'Embracing' Trump in Hope of Pardon

“The View” co-host Sunny Hostin asked Democratic New York City Mayor Eric Adams on Friday if he is “embracing” President-elect Donald Trump in hopes of gaining legal favor regarding the current charges against him.

Federal prosecutors for the Southern District of New York indicted Adams on five counts of bribery and fraud in September. claiming He said he “sought and accepted improperly valuable benefits” from wealthy foreign businessmen and at least one Turkish government official for nearly a decade. Hostin asked Adams during “The View” to respond to allegations that critics are “embracing” Trump so the president-elect will drop the charges or grant a pardon if convicted.

“But critics argue that you have recently embraced Trump; Maybe it’s because you want either the charges to be dropped or perhaps a pardon from President-elect Trump. What is your response to these criticisms? Hostin asked.

“You know, I think there’s nothing more challenging than not being able to defend yourself publicly… I’ve said this over and over again, I’ve done nothing wrong,” Adams said. “I have spent 40 years of my life protecting the city’s children and families, including 22 years as a police officer. I’m consistent with that, I’ve lived my life every day the way I expect New Yorkers to live their lives.

“I have my legal team, they will handle this case,” Adams continued. “My job is to do what I’ve been doing since January 1, 2022, to get crime down in this city, to get record housing built in this city, to turn our economy around, and to make sure you feel safe when you leave here. You can enjoy the safety of this city. That’s my job, I’ve lived up to this. So, despite the challenges we face in life, can you continue to do the job you were chosen to do? The numbers speak for themselves, I do it every day.”

Prosecutors made allegations in a 57-page article indictment Adams allegedly “simply and specifically” violated the law by accepting illegal campaign contributions through straw donations during his 2021 mayoral term. A Turkish official who allegedly paid straw donations to Adams’ campaign granted the mayor free or discounted travel on a Turkish airline. Various international destinations in exchange for Adams agreeing to the establishment of a diplomatic outpost in the city.

Adams furious Many New York Democrats said it was “insulting” for members of their own party to label Trump a “fascist” and compare him to former Nazi leader Adolf Hitler. The mayor of New York has called on the American people to “tone down the rhetoric” and unite as a nation ahead of the 2024 elections.

“I’ve been talking to my mayors all over the country and they’re talking about the real problems we have. And with all that happens to New Yorkers every day, we’re left asking the questions: ‘Is someone a fascist?’ or ‘Is someone Hitler?’ This is an insult to me. It’s insulting,” Adams said in late October. “I’m not going to get into it. Everyone needs to reject this discourse. Because after Election Day, we still need to be America, not divided states.”

Trump in public thanked He thanked Adams for his speech at his historic massive rally at Madison Square Garden in New York City on October 27, calling the mayor “really great” and noting that he was “going through a tough time” with his legal troubles.
