Akron caregiver fatally stabbed after fight at group home, police say

AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) – A woman is dead in a stabbing at an Akron group home Friday night, according to Akron Police.

Akron Police officers responded to Shaw Ave. on Saturday, according to a statement. He responded to a fight at a group home in the 1700 block around 9:22 p.m.

According to police, the 911 caller reported being pushed by a customer inside the home.

When police arrived, they found a man at the door with visible injuries to his hands.

While checking the home, officers said they directed 34-year-old Jarel Wooden outside the residence.

After entering the home, officers found a 56-year-old woman, later identified as the caller and caregiver, unresponsive and with an apparent stab wound, according to the release.

Police said the 56-year-old guard was pronounced dead at the scene.

The guard’s identity is being withheld pending further investigation.

After police continued their investigation and Wooden received treatment, Wooden was arrested and charged with murder.

Wood was then transported and booked into the Summit County Jail.
