Anand BJP Councilor Dismissed After Rape and Threat Allegations | Vadodara News

Vadodara: A BJP councilor of Anand Municipality was arrested for rape and intimidation on Sunday. Ward 6 councilor Dilip alias Dipu Prajapati has been accused of allegedly raping a 35-year-old married woman. Prajapati was suspended from the primary membership of the party on Sunday, even before the woman lodged a complaint with the police.
According to the complaint filed at Anand town police station, the councilor first reached the woman on June 6 and promised to share the voter slip on her WhatsApp number. The council member then started texting the woman.
The woman claimed the council member threatened to share her recordings with her husband. The complainant stated that she was raped by the council member, who allegedly threatened to kill her husband and children.
The complainant later stated that after she became pregnant, she explained the incident to her husband and chose to have an abortion with her husband’s consent.
The complainant stated that on Saturday night, her husband left the house to buy ice cream after a municipal member broke into her house and raped her. When her husband returned home, the councilwoman tried to flee the scene but was caught by her husband and others in the neighborhood. The councilor then called the woman’s brothers and the group of seven other defendants who attacked her family.
The complaint was registered against the councillor, his brothers and seven others. Earlier on Sunday, before the complaint was registered, the BJP suspended the councilor from all duties.
Rajesh Patel (Dharmaj), president of Anand district BJP, issued a letter suspending Prajapati from the party’s primary membership with immediate effect.
