12-year-old teenager charged with attempted murder after being injured

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced the arrest of a 12-year-old boy in connection with a Nov. 11 shooting and armed robbery in March.

Investigators said this arrest followed a response to a shooting on Ranch Road around 7 p.m., Nov. 11.

When authorities arrived, they found a 14-year-old boy with multiple gunshot wounds. It was learned that the condition of the 14-year-old boy, who was taken to the hospital, was stable.

Investigators determined it started with an argument in which the 12-year-old allegedly pulled out a gun and fired, eventually hitting the victim. Deputies said the suspect fled the scene before law enforcement arrived.

On November 15, the 12-year-old turned himself in at Richland County Sheriff’s Department Headquarters.

The teen faces multiple charges, including attempted murder, possession of a weapon by a person under 18 and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

During the investigation, authorities determined that the suspect was involved in an armed robbery near Eastern Boundary Road in March and was also charged with armed robbery in connection with that incident.

He is currently registered with the Department of Juvenile Justice.
