Police are appealing for the public’s help in catching masked criminals who they say attacked a Lower Hutt dairy owner on Sunday night.

A group of at least four masked criminals broke into a dairy on Knights Road, near the center of the city, just before 7pm.

A store owner was attacked before the group left in a stolen car with cigarettes, cash and other items.

The group then allegedly left the stolen vehicle in Woburn, then got into another stolen vehicle abandoned in Parliament Street and then fled on foot.

Detective Senior Sergeant Rachael Boyd said police were concerned about the levels of violence used and appealed for anyone who witnessed anything suspicious or had helpful information or CCTV to call 105 or Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
