Recently, a video went viral showing a car driver blocking the path of a pursuing ambulance. The incident, which reportedly took place in Kerala, resulted in the police fining the driver 2.5 lakh rupees and canceling his licence.

A patient requiring emergency attention was delayed two minutes due to a vehicle blocking the ambulance’s path. Even though the ambulance driver constantly honked his siren and horn and most of the other vehicles pulled over, the car in question remained motionless, preventing the ambulance from passing.

The entire incident, which was recorded on video from inside the ambulance, was shared on social media and attracted great attention in a short time.

After the video went viral, the police realized the seriousness of the situation and immediately launched an investigation. Authorities located the vehicle owner and imposed a fine of 2.5 lakh rupees and canceled his driving licence.

It should be noted that under Section 194E of the Motor Vehicles Act, failure to yield to an ambulance or emergency vehicle sounding its siren or whistle carries a fine of Rs 10,000 and possible imprisonment of six months.
