Malaysians demand road safety measures after VIP convoy and container crashes

Malaysians are demanding authorities reveal the identity of a VIP whose convoy caused an accident on a highway at the weekend, as road safety concerns grew after a 21-year-old woman died after her car was struck by a container. He fell from a speeding truck.

On Saturday, an unmarked black sedan with police-style turn signals crashed into the back of a civilian car that was speeding through traffic during a downpour to catch up with a VIP convoy on the North-South Highway in Negeri Sembilan state.

Dashcam footage of the victim’s car, shared widely on Malaysian social media, shows the vehicle pinning two other cars before crashing into the victim’s car. People in the vehicle, including a child, were heard crying and screaming.

There was no loss of life, but it is not yet known whether there were any injuries.

Many online users demanded that VIP escorts be banned for everyone except senior leaders such as kings, prime ministers and heads of state.

We read one comment about X: “It is truly unnecessary and dangerous, as we have seen over and over again.”

The VIP, whose identity is not yet known, was also criticized for forcing traffic to separate and slow down; Many argued that the elite would have an army of personal assistants who could help manage their time without causing problems for the public.
