Poughkeepsie police update on stabbing at Pershing Avenue Park

POUGHKEEPSIE – City of Poughkeepsie police have charged a suspect with murder in the fatal stabbing of a 50-year-old man in Pershing Avenue Park earlier this month.

Police identified the suspect as 51-year-old Shrone Wright.

He was taken into custody Wednesday with assistance from the Neighborhood Rescue Unit, the patrol unit and the State Police Community Stability Unit.

Wright is accused of stabbing a 50-year-old man in Pershing Avenue Park on Nov. 6 around 9:44 p.m.

Responding to a call that night of a man stabbed and bleeding, city police found the victim and transported him to a local hospital, where he died a short time later.

Wright was charged with second-degree murder, a felony. He was arraigned and is being held in the Dutchess County jail. Police did not say whether the trial judge set any bail.
