Ulster County Couple Arrested, Facing Esopus Theft Charges

A pair of Ulster County lovebirds found themselves in a pile of hot water following their recent arrest. The arrest and related charges stem from a robbery the couple allegedly committed in early November.

Theft in Aesopus

The alleged theft occurred on November 1, 2024, at a residence owned by an 89-year-old senior citizen in the town of Esopus. according to Press release issued by the Ulster County Sheriff’s OfficeThe homeowner discovered some items were missing from his home, which led him to contact the sheriff’s office.

Upon investigation by detectives, it was determined that 29-year-old Kristen T. Jones, living in Ulster Park, unlawfully entered the victim’s home and stole the items.

The press release stated that Jones waited for the victim to fall asleep before entering the home. Once inside, he took the victim’s U.S. currency, credit cards, jewelry and other personal items.

Last week, on November 13, 2024, Detectives executed a search warrant at the home of Jones and his partner, Dean A. Hunlock, 26, also of Ulster Park. During the search, detectives recovered several stolen items belonging to the victim. Once the items were located, both Jones and Hunlock were taken into custody without incident.

Accusations and Punishment

Both Jones and Hunlock now face charges for their roles in the burglary. Lock was charged with the misdemeanor offense of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fifth Degree. He was later released from custody on a hearing ticket returnable to Esopus Township Justice Court at a later date and time.

Following his arrest, Jones was turned over to the Ulster County Central Regulatory Division Court. He was later arraigned and sent to Ulster County Jail on $2,500 cash bail.

All of the charges against Jones carry the potential for imprisonment behind bars if he is found guilty. The most pressing of the charges would be the charge of Burglary in the Second Degree as the defendant would be guaranteed a prison sentence if convicted.

All of these charges carry a range of penalties ranging from prison time to fines. A person’s prior criminal history may factor into determining sentencing; This means that the charges may be more severe if the person has a prior history, or less severe if they do not have a prior history.
