Chula Vista police pursuit of stolen motorcycle ends in crash

A Chula Vista police pursuit of a stolen motorcycle ended when the driver rear-ended a stopped vehicle near an intersection Sunday, ejecting himself and his passenger, police said.

A 39-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman were seriously injured in the accident. Police reported that the condition of the people taken to the hospital was stable.

The incident began after police were notified that a license plate reader camera had detected the stolen motorcycle on Main Street east of Interstate 805 shortly after 5:30 p.m.

Officers attempted to pull the driver over, but he did not yield and drove west on Main Street, eventually crashing at the intersection of Main Street and Third Avenue and driving away.

In the accident, two women in the stopped vehicle were also injured. Police said he was taken to the hospital after complaining of pain.
