Marietta High School teacher pleads not guilty to assault charge

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) – A Marieta High School teacher appeared in court Monday.

Christopher Van Reeth, 36, pleaded not guilty to a charge of assaulting a student.

He was issued a temporary restraining order (TPO) and set for a preliminary hearing, according to Marietta Municipal Court. A date for the preliminary hearing has not yet been set.

He was arraigned on November 8 but was originally scheduled for November 18.

Van Reeth is accused of grabbing a student’s hoodie by the hood and pulling her head up. The student stated that they came home with red spots on their neck and later received a medical diagnosis of acute neck muscle tension.
