PUTNAM COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A family is mourning the loss of a man killed in a construction-related accident last week.

Data Data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics showed that Tennessee was among the states with the highest number of construction-related deaths, with 43 deaths in 2022 alone.

Kyle Lesko has been described as a great guy to be around and a handyman. That’s especially how his son Kane remembers him. The couple were roommates.

“Whenever we had a moment to breathe we’d be playing pool,” said Kane.

But last Wednesday, Kyle didn’t return home from his construction job. Kane said a deputy called him and told him to come to an area hospital.

“He came up to me and shook my hand and said, ‘I’m sorry son, your father passed away,’ and I was a little devastated,” added Kane. “But I had to stay strong to make sure everyone was informed.”

Investigators said Kyle was working on the roof of a home in Baxter when temporary beams collapsed.

Kane told News 2 he feels the support of the community and is trying to be there for his family.

“They’re hanging in there and staying strong, essentially doing the best they can to prepare themselves to go on the rest of their lives without him,” Kane said.

His younger sister says she’s not ready to talk on camera, but told News 2 via text that her dad is one of a kind. He added that he will continue to share the kindness he taught her.

“Anytime he did something for someone, whether it was helping people locally or building houses for people on his construction crew, he would always do it,” Kane said.

A celebration of life for Kyle is planned for this Saturday at noon at Cookeville’s Life Church.
