Man arrested after brutal hammer attack on bike in D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A man has been arrested in connection with a hammer attack in Northwest D.C. that sent one victim to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said Monday.

The incident happened around 11:34 a.m. Thursday in the 1500 block of Park Road Northwest. According to the victim, an unidentified suspect approached him on a bicycle and attacked him with a hammer before fleeing the scene.

The next day, Third Precinct officers arrested the suspect, identified as 43-year-old Darrell Marshall of Northwest, D.C., in the 1600 block of Columbia Road Northwest. He was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon (hammer) and possession of a controlled substance.

The victim was transported to a local hospital by DC Fire and EMS and is expected to recover.
