Journalist Sue Camilleri confirmed that Petersen had played the Best Of The Bee Gees tribute show in the last five years.

Manager Greg Shaw said in his statement: Press Association: “I have known Colin for 34 years and I was thrilled when he agreed to complete his career by joining Best Of The Bee Gees.

“His endearing nature and unabashed storytelling brought unique perspectives to shows and he was loved on and off stage.

“It was an honor to call him my friend.”

Our friend and colleague Evan Webster said in a statement: “Our lives were enriched the moment Colin joined our group. For years we traveled the country sharing laughter and music.

“He was a very fine gentleman and lived among us with grace and dignity. It will be remembered forever.”

Bee Gees star Maurice died unexpectedly in 2003 at the age of 53 due to complications from a twisted bowel. His twin sister, Robin, died of liver and kidney failure in 2012 at the age of 62 after battling colorectal cancer.

Petersen is survived by two sons, Jaime and Ben, whom he shares with his wife, Joanne.
