Marius Borg Hoiby, son of the Crown Princess of Norway, arrested on suspicion of rape

The eldest son of the Crown Princess of Norway and the future King’s stepson has been arrested on suspicion of rape.

Marius Borg Hoiby, 27, was detained late Monday on charges of “sexual intercourse with a person who is unconscious or unable to resist the act for other reasons,” Norwegian police said on Tuesday.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit was a single mother when she met and married Crown Prince Haakon in 2001.

Mr Borg Hoiby was raised by the heiress from the age of three but has held no royal duties since retiring from public life at the age of 20.

This is the third time Mr Borg Hoiby has been arrested in recent months in cases involving four women and one man.

He was arrested after a fight broke out at a woman’s home in Oslo on 4 August. He faced preliminary charges of bodily harm and criminal damage and was released.
