Louisville suspends cornerback Tayon Holloway following his arrest on domestic violence charges

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -Louisville sophomore cornerback Tayon Holloway has been suspended indefinitely following his arrest on domestic violence charges after police say he punched his girlfriend and pressed a pillow to her face.

In a statement announcing the suspension, the school said they were gathering more information about the arrest. Holloway pleaded not guilty.

Holloway was arrested a day after committing an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty against Stanford, one of two costly late flags in Louisville’s 38-35 loss to the Cardinal.

He was charged with one count of first-degree strangulation and one misdemeanor count of fourth-degree assault.

Holloway’s girlfriend told University of Louisville Police that he was getting ready to smoke marijuana in the bedroom of her apartment, and when she intervened to stop him, he threw her off the bed and began punching her with a closed fist, according to the arrest document. fist.

Police wrote in the citation that Holloway then grabbed a pillow and pressed it against his girlfriend’s face for “approximately 10 seconds.” He then removed the pillow and pushed it toward the bedroom door, according to the document.

Police wrote that Holloway’s girlfriend used a mirror to protect herself, breaking the mirror in the process. Police arrived at the scene and reported that the woman had a cut on her upper lip.

Holloway was arraigned in Jefferson County District Court. Bond was valued at $10,000 and was ordered to have no contact with his girlfriend.

Holloway transferred to Louisville after two seasons at North Carolina and played in all 10 games this season, making 16 tackles, five pass breakups and a sack.
