Whitehaven murder suspect admits manslaughter of Tiffany Render

Giving evidence, Irwin claimed Ms Render’s death was accidental.

He denied being responsible for a “cycle” of violence against her and insisted he did not kill her.

The defendant admitted taking up to 10 lines of cocaine in the hours before Ms Render’s death.

He mentioned that he was bleeding from an injury, but denied any suggestion that he “would have been in agony” at the time.

He said they fell asleep before waking up to find Miss Render dead.

Following cross-examination, Irwin pleaded guilty to a new charge of manslaughter, admitting he unlawfully killed Ms Render.

The prosecutor’s office, which alleges murder and sexual assault, which the defendant denies, does not find this decision appropriate.

The trial continues.
