Earlier this month, Sarah McBride He made history as the first transgender person elected to Congress. Representative on Monday Nancy Mace responded by introducing a measure that would ban McBride from using the women’s bathroom at the Capitol. If accepted, resolution “Prohibit all members, officers, and employees of the House from using single-sex facilities other than those corresponding to their biological sex.”

Many people consider Mace a rowdy and the only reason he goes after McBride is because he needs attention. South Carolina Republican did this chirp He ponders which bathrooms McBride should be allowed to use a staggering 28 times in the last 16 hours. And several of those posts contained particularly nasty messages directed at his future House colleague:

But Mace argued that preemptively attacking McBride for facilities he didn’t even try to use was just “common sense.” In his social media posts and statements to journalists, Mace described himself as “a feminist “It protects women and girls,” she said and talked about her experience as the first woman to graduate from the Castle. surviving Rape, domestic violence and abuse:

Considering Mace’s commitment to protecting other women and girls from abuse, you’d think she’d have a lot to say about the most important issue in Washington this week: Donald Trump’s nomination of multiple men accused of sexual harassment To his cabinet. But strangely Mace had only bright things to say. Cabinet elections Matt Gaetz (who became) accused for statutory rape), Pete Hegseth (paying a woman) accused convicted of rape) and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. accused Allegation that he sexually assaulted his family’s former nanny) on CNN:

Mace’s overall stance on who poses a threat to the women at the Capitol doesn’t exactly make “common sense.” Studies to show Allowing transgender individuals to use facilities of their choice does not increase criminal activity in those areas, but transgender individuals often four times They are more likely to be victims of violent crimes than cisgender people.

So why is Mace sounding the alarm about McBride, who has not been accused of sexual harassment but not about various politicians he supports? Unfortunately, he probably won’t explain his reasoning. In March, George Stephanopoulos asked Mace how, as an outspoken survivor, her support for Trump compared to the civil lawsuit decision that found her. responsible for sexual assault author E. Jean Carroll (not to mention more than two dozen other authors) sexual abuse claims). He changed direction and insisted The ABC News anchor’s questions were merely intended to “embarrass” him.
