A man, later identified as Rednour, called the dispatcher to say he had “accidentally” stabbed his mother, then hung up and did not return the call, the dispatcher told Caudle at the time. Meanwhile, an ambulance was on its way to a rural Cody address.

“I knew Robert and experienced his violent tendencies,” Caudle wrote in the affidavit. “Dispatch asked if I wanted him to contact another MP as well, And I said yes.

The court file shows Rednour was convicted of breach of peace in 2018 and interfering with a police officer in 2022.

One Chapter

While Caudle was driving, the officer told him that he contacted Rednour’s mother and told her that she had not been stabbed, that she was fine and that Rednour was “throwing a fit,” the affidavit says.

Caudle asked the officer to connect his phone to Rednour’s phone. The officer tied the two men together and Rednour said something to the effect that the situation was bad. The document alleges that he stabbed his mother.

The deputy asked to speak to Rednour’s mother, and Rednour gave the phone to her mother.

The deputy wrote in his affidavit that Rednour’s mother said her son had stabbed her.

“Well, There’s no coming back from this,” Rednour said in the background, according to Caudle’s narration.

Lethal Force is Ready

Caudle asked to speak to Rednour again.

He told Rednour that he and the other deputy were heading toward the house and that Rednour had to come out with nothing in his hands and both hands up, the document states.

The affidavit states Rednour said both he and his mother were waiting in the garage.

Both MPs arrived at the same time. In the affidavit, Caudle says he saw Rednour walking through the open garage, wearing what appeared to be a short-sleeved shirt and pajama bottoms, his hands up and a cellphone in one hand.

The other deputy approached “ready for lethal force,” Caudle wrote, while Caudle approached with a weapon of non-lethal force.

Caudle and another deputy seized Rednour’s cell phone and placed it in the back of Caudle’s patrol truck for “investigative detention.” A way to imprison him while we figure out the situation and the potential harm Rednour could cause.

Blood and Smell

Caudle approached Rednour’s mother.

He later wrote that his head and face were covered in blood. The woman’s abdominal area was visible, and the deputy could “clearly see” a stab wound on the right side of her abdomen, which was about 5 inches long, the document said.

The ambulance has arrived.

According to the statement, the mother said there was no one else at home. And The knife was probably in the kitchen.

Caudle wrote that he detected “the strong odor of marijuana” inside the house and noticed several bongs.

The kitchen was in disarray. A large bench fell over; TThere was blood on the floor, on the counter and in some cabinets, Caudle wrote.

There were also bloodstains on a doorpost; He added that a large amount of blood was seen in the master bedroom.

The ambulance took Rednour’s mother to the hospital. Another deputy found the knife ONE 8-inch blade 4Inch stem according to document.

The affidavit does not say where deputies found the knife.

Including MRI

The affidavit says Caudle told Rednour his Miranda rights and the man twice confirmed that he understood them.

The deputy headed to the Park County Detention Center, but Rednour later claimed he suffered a head injury during the scuffle and needed a medical examination, so Caudle turned toward the emergency room instead.

Staff at emergency room gave Rednour a ‘full exam’, Including an MRI,” the document says, but the MRI came back clear and the injuries Rednour claimed to have suffered that night to his hips and chest were “considered old injuries by hospital staff.”

There was a new injury, the staff member told the deputy: a scrape on Rednour’s left shin.

Caudle wrote that Rednour talked non-stop while waiting for the results. The man said he was upset because he told his mother he would sell the house in three days and had to move.. S.The document states that he will sell or extinguish his belongings.

Rednour claimed that his mother had been annoying him for days by making strange noises and hiding in corners or in sofa cushions. He also brought the “little people” to annoy her, according to the document.

“Note: It would have been impossible for him to hide in the cushions of a sofa,” Caudle wrote in his affidavit.

During his stay in the hospital, Rednour showed signs of hearing voices., The affidavit states that he referenced a door opening in a wall that had no door and asked Caudle if he had seen things that Caudle knew did not exist.

The document states that Rednour said he had smoked “weed” multiple times in the past few days, talked about stabbing his mother in the head, and was so dazed he said, “I don’t know why I’m so happy.”
