Wausau man sentenced to 10 years in prison for beating and stabbing woman

WAUSAU – A 36-year-old Wausau man was sentenced to 10 years in prison Tuesday. Severely beating and stabbing woman In October 2023.

Donald E. Warren was given five years of extended supervision to follow his prison sentence. Marathon County District Judge Suzanne O’Neill also gave Warren five years of probation to follow her extended supervision.

on October 3 Warren pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated battery with intent to cause great bodily harm as part of a plea agreement. The charges were dropped from a charge of attempted first-degree premeditated murder.

According to the criminal complaint, on Oct. 11, 2023, a caller reported an injured woman who was believed to be the victim of a domestic violence incident. A police officer contacted the woman and found she had “serious” injuries to her face. The woman’s right eye was bloodshot and its surroundings were black and blue. He had a rash on his neck and chin area and dried blood on his shirt, according to the complaint.

At the home, officers found a knife at the top of the stairs and dried blood on the floor of the kitchen, living room and bed sheets, according to the complaint.

The woman said Warren told her to be quiet and then punched her in the face six to eight times, according to the complaint. His teeth were loose due to the punches he received in his face. The complaint also stated that Warren stabbed the woman in the abdomen, leaving a 1-by-2-inch wound. The woman said her vision was blurry and she had difficulty hearing.

According to the complaint, the woman said Warren had threatened to kill her in the past and leave her body in the woods where no one could find it. Warren also told the woman he was going to kill her family. He said that in previous incidents, Warren had taken his phone and warned him that he would kill him if he reported the incidents to the police.
