Man who kidnapped Kentucky teenager in Wichita arrested

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – A 21-year-old Wichita man has been arrested and charged with multiple child sex crimes in connection with a Kentucky podium teenager.

The Wichita Police Department said they were contacted by law enforcement in Murray, Kentucky, about noon Monday, regarding the missing teenager. In response, officers went to the 2300 block of N. Woodlawn, where the child was believed to be.

The department’s patrol and investigation units worked together to try to locate the teen in Wichita. Detectives with the Exploited and Missing Children Unit conducted several interviews and learned that the 21-year-old man had been communicating with a 14-year-old boy and arranged for the teenager to travel to Wichita.

Detectives identified the 21-year-old man with the information they obtained during their interviews. They arrested the man and booked him into the Sedgwick County Jail on the following charges:

  • 4 Criminal Sodomies
  • Inappropriate Liberties Regarding a Child
  • Interference with Parental Custody
  • Contribute to Children’s Bad Behavior
  • Extraordinary Sedgwick County Warrant

On Tuesday morning, officers with the Wichita Police Department NET team found the teen wandering around the area. They did not specify the location, arguing that only limited information could be disclosed.

“Our investigators continue to work on this case and are in contact with investigators in Kentucky,” WPD said.

The case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office for formal charging consideration.
