School teacher in Tamil Nadu’s Thanjavur stabbed on campus, suspect detained – Tamil Nadu News

Ramani, a 26-year-old school teacher, was stabbed to death by a man at Mallipattinam Government Higher Secondary School in Tamil Nadu’s Thanjavur district on Tuesday. The man, identified as Madan, attacked Ramani outside the staff lounge, witnessed by students and other staff. Madan was later arrested by the police.

According to police sources, Ramani and Madan were in a relationship that faced strong opposition from Ramani’s family. Tension between the two has increased recently after Ramani rejected Madan’s marriage proposal. This led to the fatal attack, in which Madan stabbed Ramani in anger.

A video taken from the school showed the sad moments when students carried the seriously injured Ramani to save him. The teacher died on the way to the hospital. Police caught Madan soon after the incident and launched an investigation.

The death sparked outrage, with opposition AIADMK leader Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) condemning the state government. In a social media post, he criticized the DMK administration for allegedly failing to maintain law and order.

“The news that teacher Ramani was stabbed to death at Mallipattinam Government Higher Secondary School in Thanjavur district is shocking,” EPS wrote. He accused the DMK government of administrative incompetence and alleged that crime had become rampant under the government’s watch. “There is no security for government employees, including school teachers and doctors, even in government places where they work,” he added, urging Prime Minister MK Stalin to prioritize public safety over publicity.

Responding to the incident, Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi expressed condolences and condemned the act of violence. “We strongly condemn the attack on Ramani, a teacher working at Mallipattinam Public School. Violence against teachers is completely unacceptable. “Strict legal action will be taken against the attacker,” he said and supported Ramani’s grieving family, students and colleagues.
