Court sentenced 'Am Cyanide' to death for premeditated murder

The lawsuit was filed on April 14, 2023, stating that Sararat had a clear intent to kill Siriporn by adding an unknown amount of potassium cyanide to her food and drinking water. The victim was poisoned while they were traveling together to win a prize by releasing fish onto a pier in Ratchaburi’s Bang Pong district.

The victim collapsed and died of cyanide poisoning, and the defendant made no effort to save him, the lawsuit said. Instead, the first defendant helped himself to nine items the victim was carrying, worth 154,630 baht, the lawsuit said. He also accused the third defendant, Thannicha, of asking Withoon to hide the stolen items in order to help Sararat escape legal action.

The trio pleaded not guilty to the charges on July 18 last year. While Sararat was detained pending trial at the Central Women’s Penitentiary Institution, the other two were released on bail.

On Wednesday, the court found all three guilty and sentenced Sararat to death and the other two to two years in prison.

However, the court later reduced Withoon’s sentence by one-third to one year and four months and ordered him to pay 2.4 million baht in compensation to the victim’s mother.

Siriporn’s mysterious death sparked an investigation in which police discovered Sararat may have killed the other 14 victims. Court cases regarding these deaths are still ongoing.
