FG dismisses Otukpo university board chairman | The Guardian Nigeria News

The federal government announced the dismissal of Engr. Ohieku Muhammad Salami as Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State.

The Nigerian government stated that the dismissal was due to “acts unbecoming his office and violation of established procedures”.

Notably, the decision came after a series of “unprofessional actions” by Engr. Salami, including the dismissal of the Vice-Chancellor without following the prescribed procedures.

In the statement made by the Director of Press and Public Relations of the Federal Ministry of Education, Folasade Boriowo, it was announced that despite the requests of the Ministry calling on the dismissed Chairman of the Board to cancel the decision, he refused.

The statement included the following statements: “The Federal Government announced the dismissal of Engr. Ohieku Muhammad Salami, Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State, for acts unbecoming of his office and violation of established procedures.

“The decision came after a series of unprofessional actions by Engr. Salami, including the dismissal of the Vice-Chancellor without following the prescribed procedures. Despite the intervention of the Federal Ministry of Education and official requests to revoke the unlawful suspension, Engr. Salami refused to comply, resorting to abusive and threatening behavior towards Ministry Directors, including the Permanent Secretary.

“Dear Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa stated that such behavior undermines the Ministry’s supervisory role over the university and jeopardizes the stability and management of the institution.

“In line with this decision, the Minister requested the appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of the Board to restore proper governance and ensure that the university operates in accordance with the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, law, due process and accountability.

“All these changes take effect immediately. This action reflects the Federal Government’s determination to promote good governance, the rule of law and due process in the management of the country’s universities, thereby ensuring their continued growth and development.”
