TRAFFIC STOP revealed heroin – 3B Media News

Sergeant Chrystal Massey of the Crossville Police Department called out to a careless driver on Sparta Highway around 5:33 p.m. Saturday.

A white Nissan truck was seen leaving the side of the road while traveling southbound on Sparta Drive. Officer Massey made a U-turn to contact the truck and initiated a traffic stop on Sunset Drive. The driver was identified as William Jackson, who stated that he did not consume any alcohol or illegal substances. Dispatch confirmed his license was suspended.

When Jackson exited the vehicle for sobriety tests, there was a blue plastic container with aluminum foil inside the vehicle. The substance inside the foil was confirmed to be 4.71 grams of heroin.

After being read his Miranda rights, Jackson stated that he was using Subutex and consumed two of them that day. He said that he did not use the heroin that day, but that it was his, and that his friend probably left it in the vehicle after using it before. Jackson claims he’s trying to stay clean.

After observing excessive body tremors during sobriety tests, Officer Massey determined that it was unsafe for Jackson to drive while under the influence of a mind-altering substance.

Jackson was taken into custody and transported to the Cumberland County Justice Center. He was charged with driving on a suspended license, driving under the influence and simple possession.
