Man dies moments after being shot five times while ‘banging’ on front door of Cork home – The Irish Times

In Co, a 36-year-old man was shot five times at close range and died instantly after opening the door of his family’s house to his killer. Mushroom An inquest heard more than a decade ago.

A jury of four men and two women at South Cork Coroner’s Court returned a verdict of unlawful killing in the case after hearing that no one had ever been prosecuted for Mr Falsey’s murder despite an extensive Garda investigation.

Mr Falsey’s partner Lorraine Conroy did not join the inquest but told gardaí he left the family home at around 2pm on August 3 but returned home about 40 minutes later.

Mr Falsey was home alone when Miss Conroy left, but when he returned he noticed the sliding patio door was open. When he opened the front door he saw his partner lying on the ground and at first thought he was joking but then he saw blood.

He ran to a neighbor’s house and asked them to call emergency services. When he returned to Mr. Falsey, who was lying face down on the ground, he saw two bullet casings next to his body. “I don’t remember much after that,” he said.

Inspector Martin Canny, of Togher Garda Station, said gardaí quickly arrived at the scene and the scene was sealed off when they realized there were no signs of life from Mr Falsey. The death was officially announced at 15.35.

5 bullet casings were seized in the corridor. After the autopsy results were received, a comprehensive murder investigation was launched. Insp Canny said no one had been charged in the case to date.

Deputy state pathologist Dr. Margot Bolster said her autopsy revealed Mr Falsey, who had traces of cocaine and cannabis in his body, was shot five times but suffered seven entry and exit wounds.

He believed Mr Falsey had been shot first in the face, then in the shoulder, which he believed was a defensive wound, and then in the ribcage or chest – with the bullet penetrating his aorta – which could have been “immediately fatal”. .

Dr. Bolster said the cause of death was bleeding and shock due to aortic rupture resulting from a gunshot wound to the side of the ribcage, and was also related to brain trauma due to gunshot wounds.

After the jury returned a verdict of unlawful killing, Coroner Frank O’Connell said there could be no justification for the incident to be a “shooting”, before expressing his condolences to the Falsey family and expressing his hope that those responsible would be brought to justice.
