Telegram will delete deepfakes targeting South Koreans

Telegram The Dubai-based messaging company has vowed to delete sexually explicit deepfake content targeting Korean people, as it moves to strengthen cooperation with the South Korean government.

Speaking to The Korea Times recently, Telegram spokesperson Remi Vaughn promised to enforce a “zero tolerance” policy against any illegal content and said it would join the Korean government’s efforts to protect victims.

“Telegram has a zero-tolerance policy against illegal pornography, and moderators remove it when discovered,” Vaughn said in a Telegram message. “If you have discovered this type of content in your reports, I would appreciate it if you could share the links with me so moderators can investigate.”

Vaughn also said Telegram was cooperating with the government by setting up a hotline and providing authorities with contact information for designated administrators.

This comes as the Korean Communications Commission, the country’s media regulator, has called on the company to strengthen monitoring of such content.
