Jalen Green sentenced to prison for raping transgender woman in Baltimore State

A Baltimore County man who broke into a home, raped a transgender woman at gunpoint and filmed the sexual assault was sentenced to 10 years in prison Wednesday.

Baltimore County Circuit Judge Nancy M. Purpura called Jalen Green’s crime “an absolutely brutal crime.”

Purpura also said he has no criminal record and past traumas undoubtedly influenced what happened. He then sentenced Green, 23, of Northwest Baltimore, to life in prison but 10 years in prison for first-degree rape and use of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

Assistant State’s Attorney Stacy Amparo requested a 30-year prison sentence, arguing that Green targeted one of society’s most vulnerable members.

“He was absolutely terrified, at least during this incident, and thought he was going to die,” Amparo said. “The state believes this was a pre-planned sexual assault.”

He read a victim impact statement on behalf of the woman, who decided not to attend the sentencing because her nightmares were finally starting to subside.

The woman could not make a living by cleaning houses and decided to sell sex to support her children, who were 6, 8 and 9 years old at the time. Amparo said he posted an ad on a prostitution website.

On Feb. 11, Green arrived at a home in Parkville wearing a mask. The woman immediately knew something was wrong. Amparo said her boyfriend and children were home at the time.

He said Green then forced his way into the house. Amparo said he raped the woman and recorded the video of the sexual assault as a “token” or “reward.”

Amparo forwarded to the judge a photo of the .22-caliber carbine Green used in the crime. It was stated that the gun could be seen in the images.

Baltimore County Police say Green also forced the woman to send him $100 through Cash App and stole the oxycodone. Cops arrested him outside the house.

Green’s lawyer, Douglas Phillips, noted that his client has no criminal record and experienced traumatic events twice in his youth.

Green was shot during a carjacking when he was 19 years old. He later became addicted to opioids and suffered from depression and post-traumatic stress disorder, Phillips said.

“It took a lot of time to think about it,” Phillips said. “He has been remorseful and apologetic ever since I met him.”

Green stated that he wrote a letter apologizing to the woman and forwarded it to the assistant state attorney general.

Phillips called five family members to speak at the sentencing, including his client’s father, Jemiah Green, and mother, Karen Patterson. His loved ones pleaded with the judge to impose a sentence that would allow him to one day return home and move forward in life.

“Jalen knows he was wrong,” Patterson said.

She later added, “I love my son and he should be held responsible for this.” “He made a mistake. Bad mistake.”

Before the judge handed down the sentence, Jalen Green apologized to the woman and her family.

He asked the judge for a second chance and stated that he planned to give back to society when he was released from prison.

He said the accusations in no way shape or form reflect who he is as a person.
