ESPN Host Adam Schefter Says He Broke the News of Dale Carter’s Suspension While Having Sex: ‘I’m Done’

Adam Schefter confirmed that he can get the job of announcing a news no matter how busy he is.

“This is Football” host Kevin Clark asked the ESPN host in a video released Wednesday what was the strangest place he broke the news. After a brief pause and a few laughs, Schefter admitted to breaking Dale Carter’s NFL suspension while having sex in 2000.

“I remember once I was in Denver and I was, how can I say this,” he began. “This was the first time I spent time with this woman and I got a text that Dale Carter had been suspended. I think it was for eight games for substance abuse. So I just kept laying there, did the verification, and took care of it from every angle, Kevin.”

This statement left Clark speechless.

“I’m just looking at the camera, man,” he said. “This is it. This is it. This is the greatest episode we’ve ever had.

Carter was playing for the Denver Broncos when he was suspended in 2000. He was given a one-year suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy for the third time. Schefter was a reporter covering NFL teams for the Denver Post, where he continued to write until 2004.

After the “This Is Football” clip started making the rounds, Schefter posted a small but important statement on the day in question on X.

“*Later,” he shared simply.

After leaving the Post, Schefter worked at NFL Network and has been a senior NFL expert at ESPN since 2009.
